API v1 Deprecated

Legacy API reference

Kept working for integrations that already use it. It returns fewer fields than v2 for the same single credit, so there is no reason to choose it for anything new.

This version is frozen

v1 still works and will keep working. It will not gain new fields, and the social counters it documents have returned zero since the networks behind them closed their APIs.

API v2 returns everything below plus our own Pretty metrics and four additional Majestic fields, for the same one credit.

Check domain

1 credit

Moz and Majestic metrics for one domain.

linkedin LinkedIn share count.

These keys are still present in the response for backwards compatibility and return zero. They are gone entirely in v2.

Migrating to v2

The parameters are unchanged, so in most cases only the path and a handful of field names need touching. v2 then returns Pretty metrics and four extra Majestic fields on top, at the same cost.

Change the path
- https://domdetailer.com/api/checkDomain.php
+ https://domdetailer.com/api2/checkDomain.php
Then rename these two fields
v1v2Why it catches people
majesticRefEDU majesticRefEdu Capitalisation only. Reads as undefined if you do not change it.
majesticIPs majesticRefIPs Renamed for consistency with the other referring counts.
Both are silent failures. A renamed key does not raise an error, it just reads as missing, so a migrated integration can quietly start reporting zero referring IPs.
And drop the social keys

FB_shares, FB_comments, pinterest_pins, stumbles, google_plus_one and linkedin do not exist in v2. They have returned zero for years, so nothing of value is lost.

What you gain

Everything above, plus these, for the same single credit.
