What Domain Authority means
Domain Authority, abbreviated DA, is Moz's 1–100 prediction of a domain's relative ranking potential using its link data and model. Google does not use DA as a direct ranking factor. DomDetailer returns the field as mozDA.
The API also returns mozPA, Page Authority for the homepage. These answer different questions: the domain score should not stand in for a specific deep page's evidence. Keep the target and field name clear when sharing results with a colleague.
Choose a useful comparison group
Compare sites relevant to your topic and audience. If you are assessing a regional trade resource, a few established regional resources provide more useful context than the largest websites on the internet.
Illustrative comparison: one candidate has DA 32 with varied relevant references; another has DA 48 but the remaining links point to unrelated or vanished pages. DA helps find the second candidate for review, but does not settle which one serves the project.
Save lookup dates and retain the original results. Scores can move as a provider discovers links or changes its model. Repeated checking is useful only if you also know what changed and why that change matters to your decision.
What DA cannot establish
A DA figure does not prove current search traffic, indexing status, a lack of penalties or the continued presence of historic links. It also cannot tell you whether the domain name infringes a trademark or whether its former content is relevant to your plans.
Separate those questions in your worksheet. Add columns for topic fit, archive observations, live link checks and unresolved issues. Where traffic matters, examine evidence of traffic rather than inferring it from DA.
Use DA and Trust Flow together to spot disagreements between providers. Different crawls and models can give different impressions of the same domain; that difference is a prompt to inspect the evidence, not a reason to average their scores.
Check and export a domain list
- Normalize the list to unique domains and preserve the original rows.
- Use the bulk DA, PA and Trust Flow checker.
- Keep raw Spam Score, TF and referring-domain context visible alongside DA.
- Inspect backlinks and domain history for candidates worth further work.
- Export a shortlist with reasons, not just a descending DA order.
1,000 unique successful requests consume 1,000 credits. That is about $0.79–$1.36 in consumed credit value at the current pack rates. Credits are bought in packs: the entry pack is $34 for 25,000 credits. This is not a $0.79 checkout option. Compare the current DomDetailer credit packs.
Questions
What is a good Domain Authority?
Use a relevant comparison group. There is no DA score that guarantees success in every topic or makes an expired domain worth buying.
Does DomDetailer calculate its own Domain Authority?
No. Domain Authority is a Moz metric. DomDetailer returns the Moz field alongside Majestic metrics and its own Pretty counts.
